raintree is like a long-time love…
it all started with a passion for discovering & preparing good food.
The name was easy: it was the name of my grandparents-in-law’s general mercantile in Descanso, California in the 1950’s. The curated list of offerings was also not too difficult — all of the items offered are tried & true favorites of family & friends, produced in-house or by folks we know and love.
As the times we find ourselves in has altered the “gathering place” nature of a market for the time being we can still gather around the table. We also know these times have changed how & where we get our food.
After some discussion (there may or may not have been some wine involved) about quality of food, where to get it, how to cook it, how uninspired delivery food could be we decided to work with several local makers & caterers to bring you interesting food to fix at home. Think Blue Apron, Hello Fresh, etc. but with a commitment to local producers within our community.
We’re trying to get through this one meal at a time so please be patient with us as we try to anticipate what the new normal is. Check back often as the website and our social media platforms are both a work in progress and, frankly, sometimes after a day in the kitchen the tech/business side of food is not nearly as rewarding as gathering around a table.
One of the reasons we wanted raintree mkt. to be located in BR is the neighborhood character. Thank you for a great holiday pop-up experience in the strangest of times. We are taking a breather to reset and tweak some things but we’ll be back in a physical space very soon. In the meantime we will be doing “friday night dinners” and a special or two for february and march. Details are in the shop now section and follow along on our FB/IG for updates.
